Erected by Adam Lehechka Eagle Scout Project, Hall County Historical Society, Nebraska State Historical Society and Prairie Pioneer Genealogical Society, 2015
The 1920 History of Hall County, working from the county board's proceedings, adds a few entries from the farm's first years. In October 1880 the board ordered a public vote on spending $1,000 on a building for the poor. Z. B. Partridge, W. H. West and Joel P. Goodrich sat as commissioners in 1881, the year the cemetery was established on the farm. That November the board hired Dr. H. B. Lashlee as county physician at $85 a year. In 1882 Lashlee resigned, and Dr. Janss took the post at $139.95 a year.
What the plaque says
Hall County Poor Farm Cemetery In 1879 Hall County purchased 160 acres at this location where the county's paupers could live and work in exchange for shelter, clothing, food, and medical care. In March 1881 part of the Poor Farm property was set aside as a cemetery for those who died while in the county's care and had no other place of interment. No records reveal the names of the estimated ten to twenty individuals who may be buried here. The Poor Farm closed in 1919.
