Gunnison Valley Veterans Memorial
Gunnison, Sevier County · Utah
Gunnison sits in the country where Utah's Black Hawk War was fought hardest, and this memorial reaches back to that frontier conflict as well as forward to the national wars that followed. It honors the valley's veterans across all of them. There's a complicated history folded into that span: the same communities that lost men to the Indian wars of the 1860s later sent their sons to France, the Pacific, Korea, and beyond. The memorial doesn't sort the comfortable history from the uncomfortable — it simply keeps the names of Gunnison Valley's own.
