Corral Hollow

Tracy, San Joaquin County · California

No plaque marks Corral Hollow. The register puts Edward B. Carrell's home on the site of an Indian village, a Native settlement on El Camino Viejo, the old inland road of the Spanish and Mexican years along the valley's western edge. Forty-niners came down the hollow, and so did the first mail to the Tuolumne mines, and travelers found food and water five hundred yards north at Wright's Zink House. The canyon road climbs west from here toward Tesla and the brickworks at Carnegie.
