Conflict of 1867
Hall County · Nebraska
J. R. Campbell told his family's side in The Trappers' World in September 1909, and the 1920 History of Hall County reprinted it. The family reached Nebraska in the fall of 1865, and his mother died in January 1866. In spring 1867 his father registered a homestead at the Nebraska City land office. On July 24 the youngest daughter at home hid in a grain field, crawled a quarter mile on her knees and ran four miles to a neighbor. Captain Wyman's six soldiers searched twenty-five miles south. In 1909 three of the four captives were living.
