City Of Eunice
Eunice, St. Landry County · Louisiana
C. C. Duson had already helped found Crowley with his brother in 1887 when he bought 160 acres here, laid out a town and persuaded the Southern Pacific to build a branch line up from Crowley. The community was named for his second wife, Eunice Pharr Duson, and was incorporated as a town in 1895. In 1909 voters picked Ville Platte over Eunice as seat of the new Evangeline Parish. A railroad town that lost its parish bid went on to call itself the Prairie Cajun Capital.
