Capidro

Guidici was filling in a pond. He had dug one in his back garden in the mid-1930s, and his two-year-old son Carlo fell into it; the father poured cement over it and did not stop pouring for fifty years. Rocks, shells off the free beaches, bocce balls and religious figures went into the cement; the smaller ornaments came from five-and-ten-cent stores and from gifts. He was a gardener and a janitor, and he kept Herbert Hoover's garden at Stanford. Nothing of Capidro is left at 262 Princeton Road, and nothing marks it.
