A Pleistocene Wonderland

Liberty County · Montana

The panel sends its time traveler back 25,000 years and finds the ice already gone, but that is close to when the ice was arriving. The last glacial maximum, when the ice sheets stood at their greatest extent, fell between about 26,500 and 19,000 years ago. MDT's own Ice Ages sign west of Glasgow dates the Wisconsin ice sheet's push into northeastern Montana to about 25,000 years ago and its retreat to between 11,000 and 8,000. The grassland the panel paints came after.
