1834 Homesite of Capt. and Mrs. Almaron Dickinson
Gonzales, Gonzales County · Texas
Erected 1969
Almeron Dickinson, as the Handbook spells him, was a Pennsylvanian who had served in the United States Army as an artilleryman. He became a Mason near Bolivar, Tennessee. After fighting at Gonzales he distinguished himself as a lieutenant of artillery at the siege of Bexar, and at the Alamo he was the captain in charge of the guns. As Santa Anna's troops stormed the mission on the morning of March 6, he ran to his wife, told her all was lost, and said he hoped she could save herself and their child.
