The Narrows on Caddo River
Caddo Gap, Montgomery County · Arkansas
Erected 1976
Caddo Gap is a narrow, boulder-strewn gorge where the Caddo River cuts through Arkansas novaculite, and thermal springs averaging about 95 degrees rise from the riverbed near the old low-water bridge. The river starts as cold springs southeast of Mena, runs about 45 miles to DeGray Lake and, below the dam, seven more to the Ouachita. The stretch from Caddo Gap to Glenwood is the most popular for canoeists and can generally be floated year-round except in dry weather. Nearly all of the river corridor is privately owned.
