The Gann Building
Benton, Saline County · Arkansas
Erected 1976
Dr. Dewell Gann Sr. built his office at 218 Market Street in 1893 from bauxite, with help from patients who could not pay in cash. It is the only known building made of that ore, and an imprint of his foot is still visible on an inside wall. His son, Dr. Dewell Gann Jr., who developed a resuscitator, gave it to Benton in 1946, first as a library. The National Register listed it in 1975, and it became the Gann Museum of Saline County in 1980. Inside are Sebert Magby's wood carvings, including a panorama on David O. Dodd.
