Selber Bros
Shreveport, Caddo County · Louisiana
The business began in 1907 with a store at 227 Texas Avenue, and it stayed a family firm of brothers for decades. Aaron Selber Jr., born in Shreveport in 1927, came home from Tulane in 1950 and grew it into a regional chain with stores in Louisiana and Texas. He sold the company to Dillard's in 1988 and said that cash rather than merchandise had become his inventory. The family belonged to B'nai Zion Congregation. Three of the four Selber brothers of his father's generation died within nine months, between December 1967 and August 1968.
