The panel calls her a symbol of friendship, and the phrase reaches back to Clark's journal a few days downriver from here: on October 19, 1805, he wrote that the sight of an Indian woman with the party reassured the people they met, since no woman went with a war party. At this confluence on October 16 a chief came down from a village up the Columbia at the head of some two hundred men, singing and keeping time on drums. The state park beside the pullout was named for her in 1931. HMdb has reported the panel missing.
