Louisiana College
Pineville, Rapides County · Louisiana
Erected 1988
Louisiana College opened on October 3, 1906, in tents in Pineville, with four professors and 19 students. Edwin O. Ware Sr., a Baptist minister, is counted its principal founder. It succeeded two older Baptist schools: Mount Lebanon College, which closed when the new college opened, and Keatchie Female College, which closed a few years later. The state convention's Education Commission ran it until a 1921 charter created a board of trustees. In November 2021 it announced a new name, Louisiana Christian University, though the state legal name had not yet been changed.
