Leon Wolff Mercantile
Washington, St. Landry County · Louisiana
Leon Wolff's store depended on the wagon trade. He built his home on the site of the wagon yard that served the store, and the last wagon was sold in 1952. The building at 202 North Main, which the town dates to about 1852, came to him and his brother Julian, and he rebuilt the store in 1935. It is now the Wolff Banquet and Reception Hall. It sits in the Washington Historic District, whose 200 contributing buildings covered roughly 80 percent of the town when it was listed in 1978.
