Goldband Studio
Lake Charles, Calcasieu County · Louisiana
Eddie Shuler, who lived from 1913 to 2005, built Goldband into a studio, record store and TV shop. Boozoo Chavis's "Paper in My Shoe" was a hit in 1954, and Phil Phillips's "Sea of Love" became the label's biggest seller in 1959. In 1960 Goldband was the first to record Dolly Parton, then 13, singing "Puppy Love." Rockin' Sidney, Jo-El Sonnier, Freddy Fender and Iry LeJeune also recorded there. Wikipedia calls it the longest-established independent label when Shuler died in 2005; the buildings were demolished in May 2017.
