Farmers' Valley Cemetery
Hamilton County · Nebraska
Andreas's 1882 history of Hamilton County places some of its first settlers in this precinct. In January 1867 James Waddle and John Brown made settlements on Section 26 in Farmers' Valley Precinct, and with their families they built the county's first log houses. The first sermon in the county, by a Rev. Mr. Colwell, was preached at Waddle's house in the spring of 1869. A Clay County settler's recollection in Burr and Buck's 1921 history dates the Easter storm: it began on April 13, 1873, lasted three days and drifted snow into banks fifteen feet high.
