Battery B
Helena-West Helena, Phillips County · Arkansas
Erected 1963
Of Helena's four batteries, B is the one that never faced a direct assault. The Encyclopedia of Arkansas places it on Carvill Hill, a few hundred yards southwest of Battery A and above the Upper St. Francis Road, and says its guns gave supporting fire elsewhere on the field. The batteries were lettered from north to south, and B's hill later filled with houses; the entry says residential development heavily altered the earthwork. Batteries A and B were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992, after C and D had been listed.
